SIMON GERRARD
RECENT ARTIST STATEMENT
“In my artistic journey, I delve into the intricate interplay between humanity and the natural world, allowing the environment to serve as both muse and collaborator. Guided by the subtle rhythms of atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity, and the passage of time, my creations are a testament to the perpetual flux of our existence.
Beyond mere observation, my work delves into deeply personal realms, inviting introspection and contemplation of our inner landscapes. By embracing vulnerability and celebrating the profound forces of nature, I seek to underscore the delicate balance between human fragility and the resilience of our environment.
Join me as we navigate this symbiotic relationship, exploring the profound connection between individual narratives and the vast, ever-changing tapestry of the natural world.”
ABOUT ME
Born in London, my journey as a multimedia artist spans three decades across film, painting, printing, environment, and sculpture. Twenty years ago, I settled in Somerset to raise a family, a decision that anchored my personal and artistic roots.
Beginning with film and animation in the early 1990s, I transitioned to painting, sculpture, and printing over the years. Despite the diverse mediums, my focus remained consistent: the exploration of human experience, particularly the tension between physical and emotional gravity and the yearning and even need for liberation.
The printing phase, from 1994 to 2000, was a response to the new explosive creativity of dance music. I crafted immersive environments for the dance floor, injecting energy and innovation into the scene, and working across the world. However, as the millennium turned, I sensed a cultural shift and returned to painting, seeking a more personal and introspective mode of expression.
Today, my work reflects a commitment to exploring profound themes with a serious and introspective approach. Whether through painting, sculpture, or other mediums, I aim to anchor viewers in the tangible while probing the depths of human consciousness.
